Apr 1998: The first official activity was taken place at Manukau square, the activities included Tai Chi for local residents, information exchange, network etc,
Sep 1998: A total of five voluntary representatives met Manukau City Mayor Sir Barry Curtis at his office and at the same time, registrated under the name of "Manukau Chinese New Settlers Services Trust". Ms Liz Watkins, community advisor from Manukau city council, signed as a witness on the document. Chairperson: Jenny Wang, temporary office: Jennys garage at 45 Sikkim Cres, Manukau.
Oct 1998: MCNSST establishment meeting was held on Saturday 17th October 1998 at Papatoetoe Town Hall.
Dec 1998: The first multi-service centre opened at Papatoetoe Town Hall in South Auckland and opened first youth cultural programme with a total 16 children.
Feb 1999: The second multi-service centre opened at Howick Recreation Centre in East Auckland
Nov 1999: Employed first part time staff-- NZ trained professional social worker-Jenny Wang, due to lack of funding, she has to work multi-roles, including Manager, fundraiser, programme coordinator and so on.
Jan 2000: Opened first office at the Friendship House and only one part time social worker worked with over 500 clients during the year.
Aug 2000: Established the third multi-service centre at Northcote in North Shore and later moved to Glenfield due to increase clients
Oct 2000: Renamed our organisations registration name from Manukau Chinese New Settlers Services Trust to Chinese New Settlers Services Trust due to the expansion of services from Manukau city to the greater Auckland region
Aug 2001: The fourth multi-service centre was opened at Mt Roskill Community House in 3 Kings Central Auckland and then move to Onehunga community centre.
Nov 2001: Made the first government contract with Work and Income New Zealand and ran a successful project called Chinese Employment English Course. A total of 15 clients participated into the course and 80% of them have been placed into workforce or went to further study.
Mar 2002: Board restructured our organizations services and identified two key functions: * As a professional community agency: we provide social services, including case management, settlement and employment services; * As an ethnic/cultural group: we provide cultural and educational services, including weekend programmes and cultural events
May 2002: Conditionally approved by CYF as a community services provider to serve the local Chinese community in the greater Auckland region.
Jul-Dec 2002: CNSST signed multi contracts with CYF, DOL and NZI to provide social work, employment services and settlement support to the local Chinese community.
Dec 2002: Board worked with all workers and some stakeholders to set up a long term strategy, one of them was to purchase CNSST's own property in 10 years time in order to better serve local Asian community with its own identity.
Mar 2003: Established fifth multi-service centre at Henderson Big Top Recreation Centre in West Auckland and now moved to New Lynn Community Centre.
Jul 2003: Received the Community Awards for Excellence Mayoral Award 2003, for our contribution to migrant community at North Shore.
Oct 2004: Opened 6th multi-service centre in central Auckland at Sandringham & it closed in 2007.
May 2005: CNSST head office moved from Manukau Friendship House to PGF building at Newmarket.
Aug 2005: Received the Community Safety Mayoral Award 2005 for CNSSTs contribution to road safety through the Yi Lu Ping Ai road safety project, which was recognised by Auckland city road users
Sep 2005: Successfully organised 2005 Chinese Employment Expo in Manukau. The expo attracted over 3000+ jobseekers and over 50 employers. Government agencies including DOL, MSD, Manukau City Council also attended the expo.
Apr 2006: Supported Brighter Future Education Trust to organize donation to the students in poor area in Guizhou Province China, a total of 254 children have been supported by local Chinese Kiwis.
Jun 2006: Opened the 7th multi-service centre at Newmarket.
June 2007: Received again the Community Safety Mayoral Award 2007 for the TV and newspaper Yi Lu Ping Ai road safety campaign
Jan 2008: CNSST founder and first board chairperson Jenny Wang gained the Queens Services Medal from NZ government for her great contribution to local Chinese migrants. CNSST board member Jessica Phuang also gained a QSM.
May 2008: Engaged with the Chinese Herald, Skykiwi and Chinese net, we opened 7 community donation centers for collecting donations from local Asian communities to the victims in Wenchuan, CiChuan Earthquake in China, and a total of $108,689.40 was submitted to NZ Red Cross to be passed to China Red Cross on our behalf.
June 2009: Engaged with 6 organizations from government, business and academic sections, including OEA, Auckland University, NZTE, Cosco, NZCTA, Shanghai World Expo & Focus Law, we run a very successful event called 2009 Chinese Entrepreneur forum, a total of 79 Chinese entrepreneurs and other business related people attended the forum.
Jul 2009: All Board members attended the good governance training programme organized by the OEA. at the same time, board set up three key directions in next 3 years: 1) expending services to the whole Asian community, starting from Korean community; 2) developing social enterprising goal aiming at ensure the CNSST sustainably. 3) collaboration approach with other groups in Asian community and networks.
Aug 2009: Collected a total of $9791.30 donation from public for the victims at Tai Wan flood and passed it to NZ Red Cross to be given to Tai Wan Red Cross on our behalf.
Oct 2009: Employed the first Korean staff Young Han to provide social services to the Korean community.
Dec 2009: Bought our first property of 498 m2 office building in Panmure Auckland. Head office moved in Panmure & total of 150+ attended the official opening day on 10 April.
Feb 2010: Opened CNSSTs 7th branch at Botany with over 100 youth enrolled in the programmes.
May 2010: Collected $9858.80 donations from the public for the victims at Yushu China earthquake which was passed to the General Consulate of China to be given to Yushu earthquake office on our behalf.
Jul 2010: Opened CNSST's 8th branch at Panmure with over 70 youth enrolled in the programmes.
Jul 2010: Opened the first Asian Police Community Office at CNSST head office in Panmure. there are one each Chinese and Korean police officers drop in the centre weekly to deal with local Asian migrant's policing issues.
Jul 2010: Restructured CNSST according to the board new strategic goal and the five working teams are: Social Work & Counselling Team; Employment & Enterprise Team; Education & Settlement Team; Korean Community Services Team, Accounting & Admin Team.
Sep 2010: Successfully organized an event called "2010 Asian Food Carnival and Moon Festival" at the Clifton Court Panmure, over 10,000 local people participated in the event.
Sep 2010: Co-work with The United Chinese Press and other groups to collect donations from local Asian community for the Christchurch earthquake victims, a total of $10947.30 has been sent to the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal Fund.
Oct 2010: approved as an ATO.
